Kampala — LEAGUE Champions KCC FC and Victors both have grand designs on establishing themselves among the African elite this season but something will have to give when they go head to head in their first domestic season fixture at Nakivubo Stadium.
By winning the Kakungulu Cup, Victors guaranteed themselves a place in the Confederations Cup next season, yet plenty of doubts still hover over their endurance levels, character and mettle in the so-called 'big games'.
Today's fixture is one kind of game where the Kakindu-based outfit will be thoroughly tested and will need their experienced players to perform to their very best if they are to register their first win over KCC in three seasons.
In fact, of the nine league engagements today, none will generate as much passion and interest as the Nakivubo engagement.
The concealed truth is, recent clashes between the two clubs have never been short on goals and drama.
KCC faithful are undoubtedly spinning high in confidence now following three consecutive wins in the last fortnight after a turbulent spell.
Their match-winning elegance in the games against Kakira (2-1), Sharing (5-0) and Bugerere (3-1) suggests their troubles are behind them. However, while the yellow submarine could be reveling over their flattering statistics, they ought to be reminded that the enemy for them, Victors, possesses all the hallmarks of a potential party spoiler.
Frank 'Video' Anyau has done commendable work at Victors since joining in, their 1-0 defeat to Boroboro notwithstanding.
He has handled his team's groundwork with tact and there is a general feeling of goodwill among them.
If Victors succeed in claiming the scalps of KCC, then one of the main reasons for the giant leap forward will largely be success in making his squad content. KCC will build their attacking play on the youthful shoulders of last year's league joint top scorer Brian Omony and Robert Ssentongo.
