Kampala — Barack Obama's election victory in the US is fanning inspiration among opposition parties in Uganda.
As soon as it emerged that the first Black had won the election on a campaign whose central theme 'change' was skillfully marketed, the opposition in Uganda decided to adopt it.
Rumours have it that from next year, the opposition parties, specifically members of the inter-party co-operation which groups Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Uganda People's Congress, Conservative Party and JEEMA, would begin drumming the change slogan ahead of the 2011 elections. But the parties are yet to agree on who is to be the flag bear of the co-operation.
The FDC is reportedly pushing for its leader, Col. (rtd.) Kizza Besigye, to the chagrin of the majority toying with the JEEMA's Kibirige Mayanja as the ideal candidate.
This comes at a time when some people are campaigning for the co-operation to be turned into a party. There is talk that a selling name, symbol and flag are being considered.
