Uganda: Government Registers LRA Victims

10 November 2008

Kampala — Government has completed the Registration of the people who became disabled as a result of the Lords' Resistance Army rebellion in the north.

The MP representing people with disabilities in the north, William Norkrach says this exercise will enable government plan for the affected families.

Norkrach also says president Museveni has agreed to compensate all the families who were affected by the 20-year old insurgence.

Meanwhile, government and stakeholders in the Juba peace talks have been asked to make the necessary arrangements for Joseph Kony to sign the final peace deal.

Early this year, the LRA leader Joseph Kony failed to turn up to sign the peace agreement, leaving the whole process in balance.

According to the resolutions reached during the stakeholders meeting, it's alleged that the rebel leader has now agreed to sign the agreement before the end of this month.

Komakech Lyandro, a researcher and advocacy officer working with the refugee law project warns that the delay to sign the peace deal puts at risk the stability of peace in the great lakes region.
