Ghana: Intake of Fortified Foods to Reduce Deficiencies in Children

Deficiencies of vitamins and minerals are very common in Ghana. As many as seven out of every ten children in the country are vitamin A deficient. Anemia, which is an indication of iron deficiency, also affects seven out of every ten children in the country.

Eating foods made from fortified flour like bread, doughnuts, pies, tarts, and foods made from fortified oils helps increase the intake of iron, vitamin A and folic acid. This helps reduce the level of vitamin and mineral deficiencies in the country.
