Freetown — Officials from the ministry of foreign affairs in Netherlands Tuesday interfaced with Rachel Horner of Concord Times to get firsthand information on political, security and human rights issues in the country.
The visit came after Horner won an award for her outstanding performance in investigative and human rights reporting in the country. Information gathered from her would to be placed at the website of the foreign affairs ministry in the Netherlands.
The three-man delegation would also visit non governmental originations, the foreign affairs ministry in Freetown, Special Court, talking drums studio and the anti-corruption commission.
"This is not the first time officials from the ministry of foreign affairs in Netherlands are doing a situation report on the country. We are doing update on Sierra Leone and other countries even though the Dutch government did not have its consulate here. Our last update was conducted in November 2007," said Meie Kiel.
She said the government of Netherlands assesses countries' security, human rights reports and political situations.
The team comprises of Janm Kok, second secretary at the Dutch Embassy in Dakar, Meie Kiel and Marit Maij from the Dutch foreign ministry.
