Sokoto — Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Mukhtari Shehu Shagari, yesterday charged Nigerian to be of good behaviour while in the Holy land and desist from acts capable of bringing the nation into disrepute.
He also reminded them of the need to pray for peace and stability in the country, adding that adequate arrangements has been made towards their welfare and accommodation while in Saudi Arabia.
The deputy governor gave the charge while addressing 447 pilgrims from Sokoto State who were among the first batch of pilgrims that left Sultan Abubakar 111 international airport to Saudi Arabia for this hajj exercise.
Shagari enjoined them to be good Ambassadors of the country and always comply with rules and regulations of Saudi Arabian authorities.
The Deputy Governor expressed optimism that Kabo Airline, that is responsible for the airlift of pilgrims from Sokoto zone will meet up to expectations of the people.
According to him, the hajj committee set up by the state government should rise up to the challenges ahead to ensure the success of their assignment.
Also speaking, Speaker Sokoto House of Assembly and leader of the state hajj delegation, Alhaji Balarabe Salame said stringent measures would be taken against any pilgrim who fail to adhere to rules and regulation of the hajj operations.
Salame therefore solicited the support and cooperation of the pilgrims towards a successful hajj exercise.
