A Taraba State-based social club, G-20 Club, has charged local council chairmen to show greater commitment to the wellbeing of their citizens and provide palliative programmes and projects that would reduce poverty in their councils.
The group which rose from a one-day retreat in Jos, in a commun-iqué signed by the chairman of the club's board of trustee Engr. Ishaku Tikon, expressed determination to ensure sustainable and enduring peace in the Southern Taraba zone.
The club called on political leaders of the zone to show extra commitment towards the progress and development of the zone in order to ensure effective representation of the zone.
It called on the traditional institutions to close up the gap among the respective chiefdoms of the federation and show fairness to all subjects within their domains.
The retreat whose theme, Towards A Greater Southern Taraba, witnessed presentation of three papers which centered on the role of youths in the development of Southern Taraba, historical analysis of the origin of the Jukun Kingdom and communal conflicts and their consequences.
The group called for the convocation of a conference to chart a new political agenda for the zone and to tackle all the problems militating against the zone.
