Angola: Jurist Recognises Nationalists' Efforts for Independence

Luanda — The jurist João Pinto this Monday affirmed that remembering 11 November 1975 means recognising the efforts of the generations whose blood shed whilst fighting for the country's integrity and dignity of Angolans.

Speaking to ANGOP in the framework of the 33rd National Independence anniversary, which shall be marked on Tuesday, João Pinto said that during these years the country consolidated its sovereignty and democracy.

"The proclamation of independence is a planted seed that currently germinates with intensity, enabling the right to citizenship and integrity of the Angolan people", he stated.

He stressed that the holding of last September 05 legislative elections in a climate of peace and political stability, is a historic milestone for the country, taking into account the long period of armed conflict experienced.

To him, Angola continues given significant steps towards socio-economic development, thanks to the political-military stability being lived in the country, which was achieved with great effort and sacrifice during the 33 years of freedom.

"We are independent and benefiting from definitive peace, therefore we should work and give our best to make our country develop", he referred.

Angola's independence was proclaimed on November 11, 1975 by António Agostinho Neto, who became the country's first president.
