Nigeria: Rimi Supports State Creation in Kano

Kano — Former Kano State governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi yesterday in Kano added weight to the idea of creating more states out of the present Kano, saying those opposing the idea are enemies of development.

Speaking to newsmen, Abubakar Rimi explained that it was high time to create more states out of Kano, reaffirming that such was for the benefit of all.

Alhaji Abubakar Rimi recalled that creating Jigawa out of out of the old Kano had greatly contributed to the development of the nine local governments that make up Jigawa. Rimi further stated that local governments like Ringim, Kazaure, Gumel and Hadejia were better compared to 12 years ago when they were under Kano. The former communications minister added that in addition to that, more job opportunities would be provided, saying ; "I am hundred percent in support of creation of more states out of the present Kano State."

He noted that any community that feels it deserves to be curved out of the present Kano as a state of its own should do so because it is a way of progress for the entire people of Kano. The former civilian governor however expressed concern over the current trend of money politics, saying the trend would not augur well for the nation's democracy. He further urged the politicians to desist from money politics, adding; "To the electorate, they should know that whoever buys their votes will definitely loot their funds from the public treasury. But to the politicians that are in the ugly trend, they should bear in mind that they would one day account for their deeds in the hereafter". Rimi argued that politics should be practiced according to its dictates, adding that the electorate should be allowed to vote for candidates of their choice.
