Nigeria: Saraki's Wife Pays Medical Bill of VVF Patient

11 November 2008

Lagos — The wife of the Kwara State Governor, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Saraki, has paid the medical bill of a Vesico Virginal Fistulla (VVF) patient, Mrs. Nurat Abolarin. She has also urged other indigenes of Kwara State who may be suffering from VVF to present themselves at hospitals for treatment instead of hiding at home and suffering.

Off setting the cost of Abolarin's treatment at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital , Mrs. Saraki noted that this was one of the conditions which women suffer as a result of child birth and that everyone including pregnant women themselves must be ready to make pregnancy and childbirth safe in Nigeria.

Said she "This is the core of the message that I have tried to spread through The WellBeing Foundation over the past few years, we must come to the aid of women and children by providing not only treatment but information that will save them from conditions that make sit impossible for them to live optimally."

"She noted that the WellBeing Foundation is ready to collaborate with all organisations like the United Nations Food and Population Agency (UNFPA) and other non governmental organizations to deal with the incidence of VVF in Kwara State.
