Kampala — TWO Kobs players and an official who beat up referee George Collins Mulindwa during an abandoned Hima 10s match on Sunday face life bans from rugby if found guilty by the Uganda Rugby Union disciplinary committee.
Steven Ogwete, Victor Wadia and coach Fred Mudoola pounced on referee Mulindwa after he dished out yellow cards to two Kobs players during their quarter-final match against MTN Heathens at Kyadondo ground on Sunday.
Mulindwa was slapped and thrown to the ground. Tournament director Yayiro Kasasa responded by disqualifying the Kobs.
"The disciplinary committee will investigate the matter once the referees present in their report and whoever is pinned shall serve the punishment according to the laws," said Kasasa.
In an interview later, a remorseful Mudoola admitted he erred but called for an improvement in refereeing standards. "I regret what happened, it was bad for both the sport and all of us involved."
"We shall serve our punishments but the Union should know that we are human subject to mistakes and they should also consider the referees contribution to the incident and he shouldn't walk away free," added Mudoola The minimum suspension they face is six-years.
