Ugandan People's Congress Meet for November 21

Jinja — The Uganda People's Congress (UPC) will hold its annual delegates conference on November 21.

Party president Miria Obote, speaking in Jinja on Saturday, apologised to members for the delay in holding the conference.

"If you buy a plot of land, do you start building a house the next day? It requires you to level the ground, look for an architect, buy material and start off. UPC has a strategic plan and we do things on plan," she told residents after attending the memorial service for her late husband, Apollo Milton Obote at Christ's Cathedral in Bugembe.

Bamwoze was the main celebrant, assisted by the Dean, Can. Daniel Kizza.

This was the third ceremony held in remembrance of Obote, the UPC founding president, who died on October 10, 2005.

Miria said the conference would discuss amendment of the party constitution. "Once approved, party structures will be formulated, thereby encouraging members to campaign for leadership from bottom-up levels," she said, flanked by the party vice-president, Livingstone Okello Okello.

Miria said party elections would be held in January 2009, adding that they would mobilise the youth and women to join the party and compete for various leadership positions.
