The Supervising Minister in charge of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Remi Babalola has vowed to stamp-out street hawking in the Federal Capital City (FCC) as part of moves to ensure sanity.

Speaking yesterday in Abuja at the end of FCT Operations Briefing Session, Babalola who noted that it has become imperative to put a stop to the activity in order to check the chaotic traffic situation in the FCC, however directed the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) to immediately clear all hawkers along the streets of the Federal Capital City

Babalola who remarked that the Administration has not legalised street hawking, however reiterated that efforts were on-going to consider the designation of some less-busy streets as official streets for trading on specific days as obtained in some other planned cities around the world.

"Our thought about creating such activities in some selected streets is to provide alternative in the short run, thereby giving the policy a human face because we have a clear mission that cannot be compromised," he said.
