Ghana: 'Elect Me as President' - Akuffo Addo

6 November 2008

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party, (NPP) has appealed to the electorate to vote for him as the next president of Ghana to move the nation into the middle income group.

He said since President John Agyekum Kufuor had laid a solid economic foundation he would be able to solve the rest of the nation's socio economic development problems if elected as the next President.

Nana Akufo-Addo addressing separate rallies at Donkorkrom and Tease in the Kwahu North District (Afram Plains) as part of his campaign tour of the Eastern Region said that the district will receive funds from the Millennium Challenge Account to provide farming and fishing inputs and credit assistance to farmers.

The NPP Presidential candidate advised the people in the area to avoid tribal politics and co-operate with the Electoral Commission to ensure free and fair elections.

A former Finance Minister and MP for Akim Oda, Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo, said it was the NDC, which took the country to the Heavily Indebted Poor Country (HIPC), since the NPP inherited a bankrupt economy, where HIPC was the only alternative to sustain the country.

He said a vote for the NDC would bring the country's development back so they should vote for the NPP.
