Ghana: Yeboah Won't Fall for Opeele Bait

11 November 2008

Daniel Yeboah says Tema Youth have a right to be angry after he decided at the last minute to ditch them in preference for a move to Kpandu Heart of Lions.

The Black Stars midfielder was all set for a move to Tema before deciding to sign a two-year deal with Lions who will be making their debut in the African Champions League next season.

Yeboah's decision infuriated the Tema side whose coach Isaac Opeele Boateng branded him a "football whore" who should be entertained and called him professional.

Yeboah though is refusing to rise to the bait of the Tema Youth coach. "As a coach you don't say such things about a player but I understand why he is angry," he told KickOffGhana.com.

"I disappointed them because we were very close to a deal and I even took their money. But once I knew I was not going back there, I returned the money.

"Opeele called me in disciplined which everyone who has worked with me will laugh at because you don't play for the clubs I have played for and the coaches I have worked with if you are in disciplined."

Yeboah says he changed his mind because he thinks Lions offers a better platform.

"With them I will play in the African Champions League, which will be crucial for me if I want to retain my place in the national team.

"I still have ambitions to play abroad too so it could be a big platform for me."
