editorial
In a month's time, we hope to welcome our own President-Elect, after peaceful, non-violent elections, but today, our felicitations go to Senator Barack Obama for winning the US presidential election and the American people for going through such a successful electoral process to come out with a result that is by all standards as historic as it is forward-looking.
We congratulate all those involved - not only the winners but also the losers. It's been one long journey, not always very friendly, but in the end the job was done and democracy emerged the winner. Senator Obama and his rival Senator McCain were both gracious in their moments of victory and loss respectively.
That after all is the essence of democracy. There is a lot that we Ghanaians can learn from that: We do not have to kill one another because of electoral disagreement or mere suspicion. We did not do that in 1992 and God willing, we will not do it in 2008.
As we savour Mr. Obama's sweet victory, we must also reserve a special place in our hearts for any one of these candidates who could be president-elect of Ghana next month: Prof. Mills, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, Dr. Edward Mahama, Nana Akufo-Addo and the others.
