Ghana: A. R. Harruna Attah Writes on - It is Indeed Possible

After the Obama electoral victory, what else can one say about America?

One can only hope that his victory would send a message to his father's continent that if they can get their act together, they too would sooner or later be able to feed themselves,

house themselves, have a good healthcare system, have good educational institutions and even send a person to the moon and beyond.

What we should not do, Kwami, is to get carried away by this great achievement into thinking Mr. Obama owes us something. His father's African genes course through his body alright, but that's where it ends. He is as American as Sarah Pailin and all the policies he would be pursuing would be tailor-made to suit his country's national interest.

I do not expect that Mr. Obama would waste, yes, waste time on a continent that has specialized in self destruction. As he was blazing the trail leading towards his becoming the world's most powerful political figure, in the DRC, they were shooting it out to see would could be more destructive. In Somalia, they were stoning to death a young girl for what their law says was her adulterous behavior.

Then, back home, despite all the accolades we have been receiving from the international community as a haven of peace and progress, some among us are trying to prove otherwise - and what better way, they think than instigate election violence?!

Violence? Look at Mr. Obama. He did not need a coup d'etat to come this far, neither did he use the bogey of violence to have his way. It is indeed possible.
