Sierra Leone: Republicans Bounce Back to Premier League

Leone Stars' and Willem II Tilburg midfielder, Ibrahim Kargbo aka Obreh is among the nominees for this year's Abu Dhabi media company 'Super Award.'

The Abu Dhabi media company which is based in the United Arab Emirate would award best Asian, African and Arab players for the 2008 season.

Obreh and Gambian born Ousman Jallow who plays with Danish side Brøndby IF were the two surprised nominees for the award including other 22 big names in Africa football.

However, the biggest challengers in this year's award include: Mahamadou Diarra, Frederic Kanoute, Amr Zaki, Michael Essien, Didier Drogba, Emmanuel Adebayor and Mohammed Abu Trika.

The nominated list is the outcome of voting by 121 media professionals from 73 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and Australia.

However, the 'Super Award' Technical Committee in its next meeting would draw up a 10 player shortlist for the award that would be announced on November 18 in Abu Dhabi.

Another phase will begin to select a winner based on the result of votes. This will be run according regulations set and approved by the awards Board of Trustees on July 26.

Voting would be distributed in proportion as following: 40% each for media, experts and coaches, while 10% each for the captains of the national teams and fans.

Fans can also vote in methods, through SMS messages or via the "Super Awards" website that will be launched on November 18 and can also vote through the current nomination forms that will be published in the "super magazine" on November 19 to December 3.

The winners would receive a sculpture and 100 thousands dollars in prize money and will also be honored in a big gala to be held in the first week of January 2009.

The 24 nominated African players include: Mahamadou Diarra, Seydou Keita, Frederic Kanoute, Mohamed Sissoko ( Mali), Mohamed Aboutrika, Amr Zaki, Essam El-Hadary (Egypt) Obafemi Martins, Steven warjo, John Obi Mikel (Nigeria), Michael Essien, Sulley Ali Muntari, Junior Agogo (Ghana) Didier Drogba, Solomon Kalou(Côte D'Ivoire) Samuel Eto'o (Cameroon) Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo)Younes Al Shibane (Libya) Stephane Sessegnon (Benin) Faisal Al-ajab, Haitham Mustafa (Sudan) Ibrahim Kargbo (Sierra Leone) Tresor Mputu (Congo DR), Ousman Jallow (Gambia).
