Over 40 children are undergoing professional lawn tennis training at the Hill Station club tennis court, courtesy of the European Union Ambassador to Sierra Leone Hans Allden.

Speaking to Concord Sports yesterday at the Hill Station court, Ambassador Allden said the three days training is to help young and talented kids with professional training in tennis.

Having spent two years in the country, Ambassador Allden said he has spotted a lot of talents and interest from kids towards the game which has moved him to support the training.

He said, "This is to help young Sierra Leoneans to see how professional coaching is conducted. There are a lot of talents here, with much interest and funding, they can be outstanding players."

Ambassador Allden invited Swedish coach, David Kallstrom to coach the kids. He called on the Sierra Leone Tennis Association to do more in improving the standard of tennis in the country.

He said, "We can do what we can, but it is the responsibility of the Sierra Leone Tennis Association to improve on the game. They must do more, try and expose the kids to places where tennis is developed."

Ambassador Allden revealed that the training was sponsored by him and Brussels airline.

Swedish coach, David Kallstrom said he is impressed with the standard and performance of the kids, adding that they have the attitude for learning.

"There is a great future for Sierra Leone tennis. The kids have the talent, they only need the right equipment to boost the game," the Trdlbackens tennis klub coach said.

Kallstrom was ranked 5ht in Sweden during his days as a player before he went to study tennis for two years and latter proceeded with sports psychology.
