Gambia: Bob Powell Gives to Seyoni Community

Bob Powell, a UK-Gambia registered charity organization, last Thursday, donated an assortment of medical items and some learning materials to the community of Seyoni and surrounding villages, and Kunkujang Keitaya Upper Basic School, in Western Region.

The presentation was done at a colourful ceremony held at the village. The alkalo of Seyoni, Fa-Bakary Badjie, received the items on behalf of the community and handed them over to the officers of Seyoni Clinic.

The donated items include cartons of tablets, uniforms, syringes, cotton wools, and computers.

Speaking to the Daily Observer shortly after the presentation, Pa Modou Faal, vice chairman of Bob Powell - Gambia, gave a brief history of his organization. According to him, Bob Powell came to The Gambia 15 years ago. He said the organization focuses on two major areas, namely education and health.

On education, he said, they have given lots of learning materials to schools and are sponsoring some needy students. He further told this reporter that his organization is playing a vital role in the area of health. He pointed to the day's ceremony as an attestation to their intervention.

Mr Faal urged the beneficiaries to manage the items properly and to utilize them wisely. He hailed the community of Seyoni for their warm reception and cooperation.

Concerning their plans for the future, Mr Faal revealed that a multi-purpose training centre and the expansion of the women's garden are two major projects the community of Seyoni will soon be benefiting from.

Abdoul Aziz Colly, project coordinator of Bob Powell-Gambia, said plans are also in place to assist the AFPRC General Hospital in Farafenni and Bansang Hospital.

Mr Colly commended the Departments of State for Health, Education and Finance and Economic Affairs for their support and cooperation.

Fa-Bakary Badjie, Alkalo of Seyoni, and Seedy Colly thanked the donors for their support.

Alkalo Badjie recalled the numerous benefits the community of Seyoni and its surrounding villages have gained from the Bob Powell Charity Organization.

He used the opportunity to thank President Jammeh for the love he has for The Gambia and her people.

In a similar engagement, the organization presented a consignment of learning materials to Kunkujang Keitaya Upper Basic.
