Uganda: FDC President Attacks Government Leaders Over Rampant Corruption

Kampala — FORUM for Democratic Change (FDC) president Dr. Kizza Besigye has criticised leaders for neglecting the people who elect them and resorting to enriching themselves and their families.

Besigye said Uganda had never seen the level of corruption it is witnessing now, adding that it was bad that the corrupt were being protected by the state.

He was on Tuesday addressing mourners at the burial of Angela Kyabugo in Kashumuruzo village in Kabale district.

Kyabugo, who died at the age of 101 was the mother of Kabale municipality mayor, Dr. Pius Ruhemurana.

Besigye reminded the mourners, who braved a drizzle, that since 1996 billions of public funds have been stolen by government officials, yet no single person has ever been convicted and punished for corruption.

He urged Ugandans to fight for their rights and flush out corrupt officials and their supporters.

He hailed the late Kyabugo for promoting education yet she never had a chance of going far in studies.
