Angola: Approval of Cocan 2009 Budget Postponed

Luanda — The Organising Commission of the 2010 African Cup of Nations in football (COCAN), met on Monday here and recommended the presentation of a budget bill for 2009 in accordance to the regulations of the Finance Ministry.

The meeting was presided over by the Prime Minister, António Paulo Kassoma, and mainly aimed at analysing COCAN's budget for next year.

According to the spokesperson of the gathering, Manuel Mariano, after a serious analysis, the Angolan premier "instructed the technical teams of the Finance Ministry and of COCAN to continue working to adjust the 2009 budget to the requisitions imposed by the Finance Ministry".

He stressed that better information on the issue is expected to be released during the next monitoring council.

Information stating that the construction works of the four stadiums for the tournament might be concluded in October 2009 was revealed during the meeting, stated Manuel Mariano.

Stadiums are being built in Cabinda, Benguela, Luanda and Lubango to host the CAN2010, these being the four main cities of the competition that Angola will host for the first time.
