Some Fako III CPDM stalwarts alleged to have been at loggerheads recently used the 26th anniversary of President Paul Biya's ascent to power to settle some of their differences.
The occasion that took place at Bonjongo in the outskirts of Buea, saw the CPDM Fako III President, Charles Mbella Moki, the CPDM Buea Urban MP, Hon. Emilia Lifaka, and the CPDM heavy weight and Politburo Member, Dr. Dorothy Limunga Njeuma, rubbing shoulders.
Mbella Moki, in his speech, told his comrades that they maybe divided like the fingers of the hand, each on its own but they must remain united like the hand itself.
"Let us set aside those attitudes of the campaign period and work to re-unite the party rather than dividing it. We spend very useful time tearing ourselves apart, backstabbing and witch-hunting each other for self-aggrandisement. This moment calls for sacrifice and service as a sign of appreciation for what President Paul Biya has done for us," said Mbella Moki.
The Section President cum Mayor of Buea Rural Council, called on his militants to put aside personal interest and their past differences and work for the good of the nation. In a keynote address, the leader of the CPDM Central Committee Delegation, Dr. Dorothy Njeuma, said President Biya has ruled Cameroon with peace and prosperity for 26 years.
"Today is a great day because we are not only celebrating Biya's anniversary, but we are also celebrating God's blessing to mankind, especially as we now have a son of African descent elected as president of the United States, 40 years after Martin Luther King's dream speech," said Njeuma.
She entreated the populace to be self-reliant, stating that it is not President Biya who will provide everything to the people. At the end of her presentation, a motion of support was addressed to President Biya, by the Section members.
The CPDM big shots led by Mbella Moki, proceeded to cut the anniversary cake, and followed by choral music and traditional dances. As the evening grew older, the party stalwarts converged at the residence of Hon. Emilia Lifaka, for a banquet where the former antagonists clinked glasses of Champagne as if to say their hatchets had been buried.
Earlier on, a bus ferrying some CPDM militants to Bonjongo crashed in a valley, a few metres away from St. Joseph's College, Sasse. The Post gathered that the 15 seater-bus had a brake failure as it descended the steep hill on its way to Bonjongo.
There were several injured victims most of them old women, who were rushed to the Buea Provincial Hospital Annex.
