Monrovia — The President of the Liberian Construction Constructor, Foday Kamara says Liberian contractors are hustlers who lack the capacity to perform.
He said Liberian construction companies are hustling for huge contracts that they can't manage.
In an interview with journalists at the close of a training session organized by Inwent, Mr. Kamara indicated that lots of things are lacking in the construction industry.
He said construction companies lack the ability and integrity to deal with project owners' money.
Mr. Kamara said the completion of projects on time was another problem Liberian contractors were faced with.
Kamara also indicated that Liberian construction companies and firms do not have offices while others have their offices in their bags.
Mr. Kamara disclosed that members of his organization have been looking up to the Ministry of Public Works for training, but noted that the Ministry has a low capacity.
He noted that engineers have a great task in rebuilding Liberia after years of civil war, adding "we need to build the road, the bridges and buildings as well."
Inwent Senior Project Manager for Business Development and Infrastructure, Heinrich Plote, told reporters that Germany has been attracted to Liberia's infrastructure development and would provide training for private road constructors.
Mr. Plote spoke at the end of a planning workshop for members of the Association of Liberian Road Constructors in Monrovia.
He said the German government would support private road constructors and enterprises in the road sector in Liberia.
Inwent is a German organization sponsored by the Federal Republic of Germany, represented by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft that represents the business community, and the German Foundation for International Development that represents the Lander (German Federal States).
