Tunis — First Lady, Mrs Leila Ben Ali called on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi, UAE, for the creation of an Arab women's Commission of international Humanitarian Right.
In an address given during the second Arab Women's Conference, held in Abu Dhabi on November 11 and 12, 2008, Tunisia's First Lady said that "improving women's condition in Arab societies, endowing them with the means of exerting their rights and duties, while guaranteeing their dignity is part and parcel of the concept of Arab national security and the security of man in its global understanding".
Mrs Leila Ben Ali noted that Tunisia's experience, especially following the forays it achieved after Change of November 7,1987 is one of the most significant in this respect, associating the economic dimension with the social one and enabling Tunisian women to contribute more strongly to the country's development.
She also said that Arab comprehensive security should base itself on a solid civilisational project, adding that there is no other alternative but to continue to give all due importance to women's condition in Arab society, as a pre- requisite for a coherent civilizational project.
The two- day conference whose theme is Arab women and the security of the human being, aims at highlighting the role of Arab women in political, social, and economic fields, and its impact on Arab society.
The conference brings together, first ladies, ministers, parliamentarians and Arab business female entrepreneurs.
