Nigeria: Jang Charges ACF to Work for North's Development

12 November 2008

Lagos — Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, has urged Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) to work with similar organisations in the north for the development of the region.

The governor gave the advice when he received a delegation of the ACF in his office.

A statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr James Mannok, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Jos, said Jang also advised the forum to live by its name.

He said the ACF could do this by relating more with similar organisations that represented the cause of the north. Jang said the destiny of the region was one and condemned instances of discrimination either based on religion or ethnic background and further said such divisions had nothing to do with the existence and survival of people in the north.

Earlier, ACF Chairman, Major General Ibrahim Haruna (rtd), had said the ACF was committed to ensuring that people of the region were empowered and emancipated and stressed the need for the people to improve on legacies of the past in view of the great challenges and expectations.
