Angola: Welfare Minister Appeals for Efforts Combination

Luanda — The Angolan Welfare and Social Reintegration minister, João Baptista Kussumua, appealed last Tuesday in Luanda for joint efforts in the execution of strategies of expanding the networks of social development projects for the whole country.

João Baptista Kussumua said so during the inauguration of São Paulo social centre, in Rangel District, an act that was presided over by the provincial governor of Luanda, Francisca do Espírito Santo.

He explained that efforts combination is aimed at complementing the social action of the government.

According to him, these efforts should involve the Ministry of Welfare and Social Reintegration and the government of Luanda province, in order to accelerate the expansion of the social network.

Mr Kussumua stressed the determination of the Angolan President, José Eduardo dos Santos, in the implementation of programmes and projects aimed at improving the quality of the living and well-being of the populations.

The official said that these programmes and projects are based on concrete actions, having added that the implementation of these plans reflect directly on people's life, through the diversification of opportunities for social affirmation.

According to the Welfare minister, São Paulo social centre will serve for one more social development project, mainly to benefit disabled people. The strategy for projects implementation consists on supplying basic commodities to the trainees during training and their adaptation to the employment market.

The government official said that the period of adaptation to the work market will last three months, after the beginning of the professional activity. He also said that the newly trained students will receive instruments for their work, besides being integrated in cooperatives. They will also receive a financial amount as initial capital.

The course in this centre will be held in two shifts, and it might last between two to four months. The initiative expects to give professional skills to about 300 people per year.

The initiative aims to train about 1,500 people during the 2009-2012 period, and it will cover themes related to HIV/Aids, small business management and civic education.

The works of expansion, rehabilitation equipping of this social centre were carried out in different phases and they are estimated at 109,609,030 million kwanzas.

The centre comprises a social hall with capacity of receiving 150 people, an auditorium equipped with a projector, pedagogical and service areas, meeting rooms, first aid room, kitchen and a cafeteria.

It also includes an exhibition hall, three buildings for professional training in the areas of sewing, shoemaking, hairdressers, hair cutting and a room for literacy lessons.
