THIRTY-FIVE pupils have been expelled from various schools in Luapula Province while police have arrested four boys from Mansa Skills Training Institute for examination malpractices.
Luapula Province police chief, Anxensio Mbewe, said yesterday that 22 pupils had been expelled at Mansa Skills Training Institue after being found with examination materials in the school hall.
At Mansa High School, five pupils were expelled and two were expelled from St Clements High School.
At Kabunda Girls High School, three pupils were expelled. At Mwense High School, one was expelled while two were expelled from Kawambwa High School.
Mr Mbewe also confirmed the arrest of the four in an interview in Mansa yesterday, saying police had since intensified investigations into the matter.
"I can confirm to you that four from Mansa Skills Training Institute have been arrested while 35 pupils have been expelled from their various institutions in Luapula Province," he said.
Mr Mbewe said the four suspects led police to Charles Lwanga Seminary where it was discovered that 12 examination packages had been tampered with.
Mr Mbewe said police discovered that one or two papers were missing in the 12 examination packages except for Mathematics paper two and Chemistry paper two where three papers were removed from the package.
Among the examination papers which were tampered with were Mathematics papers one and two, Biology papers one and two and Geography papers one and two.
Others were Physics papers one and two, Chemistry papers one and two, Literature in English papers one and two and Religious Education papers one and two.
Mr Mbewe said the four suspects had been remanded in police custody to help with investigations.
He said the 35 suspects, who are yet to be picked, would soon be charged with unauthorised possession of examination papers or information contrary to section 19 (1) chapter 137 of the laws of Zambia.
Mr Mbewe said police investigations were leading to some teachers who were yet to be picked and interviewed and that if found wanting, the teachers would be charged accordingly.
He said police would not rest until all the culprits were booked.
