Kampala — THE Christian Children's Fund (CCF) a Non Government Organisation (NGO) has constructed six classroom blocks, two teachers' houses and 480 three-seater desks.
The project, implemented by Kinaabwe Child and Family Helpers Programme is to benefit about 1500 pupils in four Universal Primary School (UPE) schools in Katikamu county.
The CCF manager for Kiboga, Edith Natongo, said during the hand-over ceremony at Nakikoota Primary School on Friday that the move is part of the NGO's infrastructural development strategy to improve the learning environment in schools.
Natongo said the strategy also aims at reducing teacher absenteeism by providing them with accommodation and improving pupil retention through supplementing the Government UPE input.
She lamented that despite CCF's input, there was still a high rate of school dropouts and absenteeism among pupils, resulting in poor performance.
She said the NGO would continue sensitising the youth and the parents on the importance of education.
Natongo said although UPE had increased school enrolment in the area to 84%, the quality of teaching and learning was still low, saying most schools were unable to provide the requirements needed for effective learning.
The education coordinator, Stella Chandiru, said the NGO had adopted a child-friendly school framework.
