Uganda: Do Or Die for Power and the Canons

Kampala — REDEMPTION is what awaits either Sadolin Power or the UCU Canons as they open their best-of-three semi-final playoffs for the national men's basketball championship tonight at Lugogo.

Last year, both teams were dumped at this stage but now one has the chance to get into the finals. That will however depend on the form of Ben Komakech and Ivan Enabu respectively.

The two point guards will pit their wits against each other and the outcome of that duo might subsequently shape the direction of this series. Where UCU's Enabu is magical on the break, Komakech is efficient; where Enabu evades opponents with his signature behind-the-back dribbles, Komakech eludes them with an irresistible shoulder faint.

The two are iffy with the shot and their proficiency in that department is swung by the moods. One thing is certain, however, there is very little to separate these two in terms of effectiveness.

Perhaps Enabu's higher turnover rate will give his counterpart the slight edge in their match-up but the Canons star will be hard to contain because he is more daring in attack.

During the regular season, the two clubs shared the spoils with the Canons winning the first round 62-50 and Power taking the reverse fixture 75-62.

However, Power bettered the Canons, finishing two points ahead in second place. Couple that with the deeper strength in depth of their bench and Power edge ahead in the favourites' stakes.

Power will look to the experience and talent of Isaac Afidra, Ken Balyejusa, Allan Tawoda and Joseph Ikong. Canons will count on Geoff Omondi, Robert Mugabe and Adams Njoroge.
