Uganda: Matugga Road Repair Works Get Sh37 Billion

Kampala — THE Uganda National Roads Authority has awarded China Chongquing International Construction Company the contract for construction of Matugga-Semuto-Kapeeka road.

The spokesman, Dan Alinange, said the road would cost sh37.9b, which would be provided by the Government.

"This road upgrading has been set up as a pilot demonstration project for using innovative technologies in road construction for low-volume traffic roads," Alinange said.

"It will assist the Government in developing and future adoption of the technology for construction of sealed low-volume traffic roads and provide information to be used in preparation of related design manuals, specifications and guidelines."

China Chongquing International Construction Company is the design and supervision consultant for the project.

Work is supposed to start in December and take 20 months.

The road measures 34.8km. The new road shoulders are unsurpassed and will be constructed from natural wearing coarse gravel.
