Kampala — THE Government has been urged to control the use of fire-arms by private security organisations.

Lorenzo Bertolli, the general manager of KK Security, said the move would reduce crime by security guards.

He was speaking at a cocktail at Kabira Country Club in Kampala on Monday.

"Security guards should not have fire arms. Guns should be left in the hands of government security organs," he said.

Bertolli said crime can be curbed through effective information flow between private firms and government agencies. He added that private firms need to have immediate response teams to tackle security threats.

"At KK Security, we are developing modern electronic security facilities to provide better services for our clients," he said.

Derek Oatway, the managing director of KK Security International Group, stressed the need for private security firms to partner with government agencies to fight crime.
