Uganda: Okwi Magic Spurs Villa

Kampala — Inspired by Emmanuel Okwi's contender for goal-of-the-season, SC Villa surged to the second place on the Super League table after a sensational 2-1 win over Police at Namboole yesterday.

Four yellow cards, several goalmouth melees, nasty tackles, nine corners, this fixture had it all.

Okwi notched his tenth goal of the season after superbly converting a 35yard free-kick following a foul on Moses Feni.

The striker later suffered a hamstring injury and was replaced in the second half and his substitute Mathias Ndaula picked up from where Okwi had left with the winner in the 76th minute.

Alex Nduga's 88th minute volley proved a mere consolation for Police that had humiliated Villa 3-1 in a corresponding fixture last season.

At Maroons stadium, Maji recovered from a draw against Youfra over the weekend to pound the whipping boys of the league Sharing courtesy of Kasim Kasawuli and Emma Mudde's well executed goals.

Asad Makibwe's late header then confirmed that struggling Sharing's problems are far from the end despite better ball possession yesterday.

At Lango stadium in Lira, Youfra failed to hold on to an Edward Imamokiror penalty lead. They handed bottom of the table Kakira a draw when Ibrahim Pengere pulled one back.

* Soccer governing body FUFA has dismissed on a technicality, an appeal Express FC had filed against the federation's decision to fine them sh1m over an abandoned match.

FUFA acting chief executive Edgar Watson said yesterday that the appeal was dismissed after Express failed to pay the stipulated appeal fee of sh50000. "Their appeal has been disregarded," Watson said.

The Red Army officials wanted the disciplinary committee to reduce the sh1m fine that had earlier been reduced from sh2m.
