Uganda: Lubaga Markets' Rows Persist

12 November 2008

Kampala — Wrangles over control of Lubaga's three markets are still going on although vendors have been given some control, councillor John Lukaaga has observed.

The three markets are: Wankulukuku, Ndeeba and Kabaawo.

Recently, there was fighting between Wankulukuku vendors and a group of organised outsiders who beat up several people.

"The market vendors are in control after the internal affairs minister gave us one Afande Kasingye of the Public Relations Department. However, we have heard that he is being threatened that he is only a civilian who should not interfere in the markets," Lukaaga explained on Monday.
