Nigeria: Bankole's Transformers, Books Lying Fallow

Abeokuta — Criticism has continued to trail the alleged rejection by Chairman, Abeokuta South Council Area of Ogun State, Prince Yanju Lipede, of 10,000 note books donated to schools in the council area, by Speaker, House of Representatives, Honourable Dimeji Bankole.

Also, the 17 transformers given the area several months ago by Bankole, as one of his constituency projects, THISDAY gathered, are still lying untouched at the premises of PHCN in the area.

There had been a cold war between Bankole and impeached Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mrs Titi Oseni, before and after the council's election.

Bankole had preferred Mr Afolabi Afape as the Chairman, while Lipede was supported by Governor Gbenga Daniel and Titi Oseni.

However, residents of the Council who spoke with THISDAY condemned Lipede's action, especially as it had to do with the educational development of the area.

They argued that if there was any political difference between Bankole and Lipede, such should have been resolved politically, without mortgaging the future of pupils who are beneficiaries of the gesture.

The notebooks are lying fallow in Bankole's constituency office in the council area.
