Vice chairman of Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) North America branch has registered his intentions to lead the party ahead of the 2012 elections.
Steve Gaojia told supporters at the party's headquarters in Freetown that he has made several consultations with party members before deciding to run for the position
He said he did not want to see the party down the drains, adding that, "I want to know from you all if I should contest for the leadership but if people say no, I will not contest."
Gaojia noted that the contest for party leadership should not only be for the aged one should not grow holder before he/she contest for leadership in his country adding that he would look at issues and address them accordingly.
"The responsibility to lead a party like PMDC is not a one man business. My vision is to build integrity and competence, protecting people's rights and appearing to be a problem solver," he said.
He said the problems of the country were many but not insurmountable, noting that with the right leadership and clear plan, the problems would be resolved.
"After my consultations with other party members in the provinces, I will officially declare my intentions next Monday in Bo."
PMDC publicity secretary Mohamed Bangura said any member of the party has the right to contest for any position as long as he or she is qualified.
He said Gaojia and his team have made immense contribution to the development of the party adding that the party executive was ready to give them the fullest support.
"The schedule conference in Makeni is not for Charles Margai or Gaojia and his team but for the progress of the party," he said.
