Bauchi — It has been observed that drug trafficking will be a great threat to Nigeria 's economy if not properly addressed.
This remark was made by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Chairman, Alhaji Ahmadu Giade, when he paid an advocacy visit to Emir of Bauchi, the state assembly and CYDI office to solicit for their support in fighting against drug abuse and trafficking in the country.
He said Nigeria has been classified as one of the drug trafficking country in the world where some unpatriotic people import hard drugs into the country from countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan, hence the need for all stakeholders to put heads together and fight against such illegal business.
He noted with concern a situation where some Fadama farmers, especially in the north have utilised that opportunity to produce Indian hemp with the aim of making money.
He pointed out that such business is a great danger to the country if allowed to continue unchecked.
He called for a legislative law that would prevent the use of some of these prohibitive items, saying some youths form the habit of taking cough syrup (Benyline) in excess, with the aim of intoxicating them.
Ahadu Giade urged stakeholders in the state to create awareness on the dangers of taking illegal drugs and its trafficking, as the only way of ensuring a safe society devoid of criminal activities.
