Lagos — Investors' morale received a further boost yesterday as activities at the stock market continued on the upbeat, which resulted in a significant gain of N175 billion in their investment at the end of the day's trading.
Sixty-five stocks yet emerged gainers to aid the further appreciation of the major performance indicators, the All Share Index and total market capitalisation by 2.25 and 2.23 per cent increase respectively.
The total market capitalisation of all listed equities inched further up to close at N8.01 trillion from N7.84 trillion, which it opened, while the All- Share index grew by 800.12 points to close at 36,538.14 points from the opening index of 35,738.02 points.
Guinness Nigeria still led gainers with N4.49 to close at N94.37 per share, Nigerian Breweries followed with price gain of N1.97to close at N41.51 per share. Zenith Bank closed as the third on the list of top five gainers', recording appreciation of N1.29 to close at N27.14 per share, while First Bank and NBC chalked N1.22 and N1.19 to close at N25.70 and N37.99 per share respectively.
On the other hand, 22 losers were recorded with Oando, yet leading with a loss of N6.59 to close at N125 per share, Julius Berger followed, losing N2.80 to close at N61.60 per share, Flour Mills ranked third with N2.42 loss to close at N46.51 per share, while Benue Cement Company and BOC Gas dipped by 1.95 and 94 kobo to close at N37.17 and N17.97 per share respectively.
The banking sub-sector emerged the leader on the sectoral chart, recording 229.97 million ordinary shares worth N2.97 billion exchanged by investors in 6,301 deals. The insurance sub-sector closed as the second most active sector trading 50.9 million shares valued at N83.9 million done in 745 deals.
Japaul Oil and Maritime Services listed in maritime sub-sector ranked third rallying 7.44 million shares valued at N29.94 million swapped by investors in 124 deals.
In all, investors staked N3.67 billion on 380.32 million shares in 10,426 deals.
