Calabar — Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State has inspected facilities at the Utanga Safari Lodge to ascertain the extent of its readiness for the fourth Obudu International Mountain Race two weeks before its commencement.

Accompanied by the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Engr. Bassey Ika Oqua, Imoke inspected the perimeter fence, hotels, road network, restaurant and bar.

The facilities are expected to complement Obudu Ranch Resort by providing accommodation to officials and athletes that will participate in the race which will include about 50 international and local athletes as well as the camp commandant.

Conducting Imoke round, Oqua disclosed that the tiles in the hostels were replaced because of defects, while furnishing will commence within the week to get the facilities ahead of the arrival of the athletes, adding that the installation of intercom will commence soon to enhance communication within the lodges.

Investigations revealed that the electricity project, sponsored with grants from the Japanese government, stretching from Bebi Airstrip to Obudu Ranch Resort has been completed pending when the lines will be energised.

The project has been extended to the Utanga Safari Lodges which had hitherto been powered by solar energy while the water project and the staff quarters and offices have been completed.

Meanwhile, Governor Liyel Imoke has described a onetime Permanent Secretary in the State, Mr. Leo Napoleon Agbor, as a fine gentleman who contributed his quota to the development of the state.

While on a condolence visit, told the Father of the deceased, Chief Napoleon Agbor Ntui, that the deceased was a good man and that the bereaved family should thank God for his life as no one can question the authority of the almighty, adding that he served the purpose which he was created.

Imoke advised that as they mourned his demise, they should also celebrate his life because he had a good job and did well but God called him for a higher service.

Responding, the father of the deceased thanked Imoke for his assistance, especially when the late Agbor was sick.

Ntufam Odu Odjie, the State PDP Secretary, on behalf of the bereaved family, appreciated the State Government for its support to ensure the burial was successful and commended Imoke for his visit to condole the family.
