The Enugu Golf Club course will soon become all green, the captain of the club, Charles Asogwa, disclosed on Monday. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Governor Pro-Am Open in Enugu, Asogwa said the proposed green course would compare favourably with other golf courses within and outside Nigeria.
He commended the Enugu government for sponsoring the championship. Earlier, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Okezie Nwanjoku, who represented Gov. Sullivan Chime, assured that the tournament would be held annually.
He said he was impressed with the organization of the championships and record attendance.The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abdullahi Abdullahi won the professional category and bagged the N500,000-prize money.
Felix Ndubem finished tops in the veterans class while Cynthia Turaki recorded a net score of 158 to clinch the female title.
In the amateur category, Matthew Balogun scored 222 net to emerge winner.
NAN reports that the high-light of the closing ceremony was the unveiling of Hole 8 Tee Box, dedicated to the governor.
