Asmara — An Eritrean government delegation headed by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mr. Tesfai Gebreslasie, participated in the Chinese Mining Conference - 2008 that was held in Beijing from November 11 to 13. The delegation attended the conference at the invitation of the PRC's Minister of Land and Natural Resource, Mr. ShiShawoshi.
In the conference in which ministers of mines from various countries and over 3,000 representatives of different mining companies took part, Mr. Tesfai presented a paper on the available rich mineral resources and investment opportunities in Eritrea, as well as the Eritrean government's policies regarding the sector.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tesfai conducted discussion with the Chinese Minister of Land and Natural Resource on bilateral relations and cooperation.
Mr. Shishawoshi stated that the PRC would encourage Chinese companies to engage in the Eritrean mining sector and expressed readiness to foster cooperation with the Eritrean Ministry of Energy and Mines on training, study and mining exploration. He further indicated that a committee has already been set up to see to it that such cooperation is effectively implemented.
Following the meeting, the Eritrean delegation visited mining companies and geological study sites in China's Shansi Province.
