A former General of the defunct rebel group - Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy LURD) has sharply reacted to media reports linking him to harassment, intimidation and rape during war.
He was accused in one of the local dailies of causing havoc for civilians in areas controlled by the rebel movement..
But reacting to the story, the former LURD strongman said, "I write to react to a story purportedly written by one Mike Jabateh on Friday, October 31, 2008, Vol. 1 No. 41 Edition of the Renaissance News Paper in which he said that I Gen. Wusu Dunzo was involved in raping women and intimidation of civilians on Bomi Highway during the 2003 war between Taylor and LURD forces."
In his clarification/reaction, he said he and LURD Chairman, Sekou Damate Conneh arrived on September 23, 2003 in Liberia through Bo-Waterside after the cease-fire was signed in Accra, Ghana in August of the same year.
He wondered as to the possibility of him harassing, intimidating, let alone to rape while the peacekeepers were in charge of security along the highway at the time.
That besides, former General Dunzo also wondered why the victims of his actions have not taken legal steps against him since the last five years "if there was iota of truth in this story."
"I categorically reject this false and malicious story attributed to me by one Mike Jabateh who has not acquired any knowledge in journalism (Mike is reading Mass Communications at AMEU) in any school to allow him by your paper to malign my character for a few dollars," he said.
Concluding, he is demanding retraction of the story and apologies for the damage caused him and his family, or proceed to court.

One of the key factors responsible for the civil war aversion for the rule of law or the basic tenets of justice : the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. I am one Liberia who believes that those responsible for gross human rights violations be brought to JUSTICE but we also have the respect the rights of the accused. Mr.Donzo's reaction to what he sees as his character assination by Mike has nothing to do with his (Donzo's) rank or the legitimacy thereof. He is simply state his disdain for the attack on his character. Rape and murder are serious… [Read Full Text]
