Kampala — UGANDAN professional boxers have lost ground in the world rankings after a dismal season globally.

According to the latest listings in all the world rankings, Uganda has only one pugilist, former Africa boxing champion Badru "Mr Crush" Lusambya, ranked by the World Boxing Council at number 27 in the 154 pound division (super welterweight).

Former IBF junior middleweight champion Kassim "The Dream" Ouma recently returned with an emphatic win over journeyman Martinus Clay. It was Ouma's second fight in the year, but even that could not help him get back into the world title circles.

Other Ugandan boxers like former Commonwealth featherweight champion Jackson "Action" Asiku got a world title shot against WBA champion Chris John, but the deal fell through.

Former IBF-IC light welterweight champion Peter "Boyz Boyz" Semo and former Africa welterweight champion Hassan "The Hitman" Saku lost their crowns on first defence.

None of the Ugandan boxers feature in the WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF latest listings while a few are listed in the Commonwealth and Africa Boxing Union listings.

Ugandan professionals have been limited to few options due to Uganda's allegiance with only WBC, ABU and the Commonwealth Boxing Council.
