Nigeria: Armed Men Vandalise Kano Water Plant

Kano — About 30 armed men in the early hours of Monday forcibly took away two electricity generators powering Kano State's Danbatta water plant. The hoodlums stormed the plant in two lorries.

They overpowered the security men on duty, including a police man, and tied them with ropes. Confirming the incident to Daily Trust, Engr Yahaya Bala Karaye, Managing Director, Kano State Water Works, said the mission of the hoodlums was not yet clear. He added that the armed men succeeded in taking away the two generators. Engr Karaye explained: "Investigation is still on-going but for now I can confirm to you that yet- to-be identified gangsters have carted away two generators that powered the Danbatta water plant. That is all I can say for now, other details of the incident will be made available after investigation."

A reliable source at the office of Kano State deputy governor and the com-missioner for water resources also confirmed the incident. When contacted, the police public relations officer, SP Baba Muhammad said report of the incident had not reached his office at the time of filing in this report. Reliable police sources at Danbatta however confirmed the incident. The sources said the police had since swung into action.
