Luanda — A new generalist weekly, "O País", owned by Angolan group "Media Nova" was launched Thursday in Luanda, with its first edition available to the public as from Friday, November 14.
"O País", that will be run by journalist Luís Fernando, former director of the State-owned daily paper "Jornal de Angola", is a 48-page coloured newspaper, carrying stories linked to politics, society, sports, culture and world.
The weekly with a daily circulation of 20,000 copies, includes a 16-page "Caderno de Economia e Negócios" (economics and business) supplement with television, arts, shows, Job and estate adverts. It includes a generalist magazine called "Vida" (life).
Vida is directed to a transversal readership in terms of gender, age and social class, supported by a high quality and aesthetic graphic layout, strong and attractive pictures, coupled with articles on travel, automobile, luxury, hotels and restaurants.
The production of the paper is secured by a 30-staff that includes journalists, photographers, page designers and administrative workers.
Speaking at the launch, the weekly's director, Luís Fernando, said the paper has entered a cycle of regular production, awaited with much anxiety, after the initial stage of a project produced with passion.
He said the purpose is to seek excellence, rather than just one more newspaper on the market.
The launch was witnessed by Government officials, journalists, politicians, business people and other guests, with stress to Industry minister, Joaquim David, and deputy minister of Social Communication, Manuel Miguel de Carvalho "Wadijimbi.
