Zimbabwe: Process to Form New Government Begins

14 November 2008

Harare — PRESIDENT Mugabe has started the process of forming an inclusive Government in line with the recommendations of last Sunday's Sadc Extraordinary Summit that called for its urgent establishment.

The recommendation was also endorsed by the Zanu-PF Politburo and the Professor Arthur Mutambara-led MDC formation this week.

The Minister of Information and Publicity, Cde Sikhanyiso Ndlovu, told journalists in Harare yesterday that President Mugabe has started the process of forming the inclusive Government.

He challenged Western countries to remove the illegal sanctions they imposed on Zimbabwe because they were hurting ordinary people.

"President Mugabe has been patient and tolerant, not out of weakness, but magnanimity.

"Given that the President is in the process, as I speak, of forming an inclusive Government, I am, therefore, calling upon the British, Americans and the European Union to immediately lift the illegal economic sanctions which are hurting the ordinary citizens," Cde Ndlovu said.

He would not say whether President Mugabe had extended invitations to the MDC formations for them to submit lists of their prospective ministers.

"We cannot reveal what communications are taking place. We do not want to prejudge this. If we say the President is in the process of forming an inclusive Government, that is sufficient enough," he said.

Cde Ndlovu said Zimbabwe was a sovereign state that should not be dictated to by outside forces with self-interests or acting on behalf of former colonial masters.

"As President of a sovereign state, President Mugabe has the authority derived from the Constitution to form the new Government."

The minister said Zimbabweans had waited for a long time to have a Government to address the economic challenges facing their country and "ameliorate the suffering of the people by providing basic commodities and agricultural production".

Cde Ndlovu said the Sadc Extraordinary Summit had spoken loud and clear that an inclusive Government should be formed forthwith.

On Wednesday, an extraordinary session of the Zanu-PF Politburo unanimously resolved that President Mugabe should form an inclusive Government in line with the Sadc recommendations.

Yesterday, the Zimbabwe Federation of Trade Unions urged MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai "to cease forthwith the previous conceptions of acting as an opposition".

In a statement, ZFTU said as labour and a strategic institution in the Tripartite Negotiating Forum, it awaited the full operation of all arms of Government as enshrined in the September 15 political settlement.

"ZFTU is, therefore, urging the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Cde Mugabe, to announce the long overdue Cabinet."

The Mutambara-led MDC formation has said the Sadc resolution provided a basis for a way forward and urged their counterparts in MDC-T to embrace it.

The Zanu PF Herald thinks we are kids and can be deceived by their cheap propaganda. It is high time they know that insulting our intelligence by their cheap propaganda won't sway us from the truth on the ground and change the peoples minds on how terrible the gvt of Mugabe is.So Kalistus Ndlovu should not waste his energy in trying to convince us into believing that there is a gvt being formed that is all nonsense.Which gvt is he talking about here?If he can enlighten us please.
