Uganda: Teacher Boycots Wife Funeral Over PLE Job

Kampala — RESIDENTS of Ogur sub-county in Lira district were shocked last week when a retired teacher, James Nyankori, boycotted the burial of his wife, Rose Nyankori, to supervise the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) in Ayami Primary School.

The bereaved children and clan leaders stormed the school, demanding Nyankori abandons the job. He said there was no problem with burying the wife in his absentia. "I cannot miss this money, the holy Bible says, let the dead bury the dead," he told the clan mates who attempted to force him out of the school.

After the burial, clan chiefs vowed to punish Nyankori for his unusual behavior.
