Uganda: LC Official Jailed for Murder

Gulu — An LC1 official in Gulu municipality has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for murdering a suspected thief in Gulu in 2004.

Tony Awilo Katto was jailed for killing Geoffrey Ocakacon.

Prosecution told court that on August 14, 2004, Awilo arrested Ocakacon and fired bullets at him, killing him instantly.

Ocakacon who was working with a security firm in Gulu, was guarding Cereleno Market.

Awilo said he shot Ocakacon in self defence because he wanted to stab him with a knife.

He said Ocakacon was in possession of stolen foodstuffs.
