Kampala — ROOKIE drivers Peter Kakaire and Jamil Kyengo have joined the race, increasing the number of entrants in this Sunday's Festino Marshals Sprint to a record 32.
Kakaire will compete in a Toyota Celica ST185 while Dubai based Ugandan businessman Jamil Kyengo will make a fourth outing in his new Peugeot 206.
Justin Mungoma, one of the organizers of the sprint, explained that Festino double track in Mukono has the capacity to handle such a massive turn out of competitors.
"We are overjoyed but not overwhelmed by the big number of competitors. With two cars running head-to-head on the double track the circuit has the capacity to complete one run in less than two hours. The beauty of it all is that fans will enjoy plenty of action," Mungoma stated.
Riyaz Kurji (Subaru N 8), Ronald Ssebuguzi (Mitsubishi Evo4), Ahmed Ashraf (Subaru N8), Susan Muwonge (Subaru N10), Laila Mayanja (Mitsubishi Evo4), Bob Roberts (Mitsubishi Evo4), Leonard Bagarukayo (Subaru N4) and Mansur Sanya (Subaru N4) are the top contenders among a field 31 drivers so far registered.
Registration ends today at 5pm at the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of Uganda (FMU) office at Lugogo. The event is sponsored by Festino Cite, a new recreation centre in Mukono and TOTAL Uganda.
