Kampala — FORMER FUFA President Denis Obua is now a happy man after Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) yesterday dropped embezzlement charges against him.
Obua had been accused of embezzling sh116, 530,824 belonging to the Federation of Uganda Football Association. Obua denied all the claims.
"The case was instituted by way of private prosecution, DPP took over, he directed police to carry out investigations but up-to-date we have failed to get evidence for us to proceed. The DPP is seeking consent of court to have the matter discontinued" said Andrew Odiit Principal State Attorney.
Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Vincent Mugabo accordingly withdrew the charges saying, "Upon receipt of the withdrawal form dated November13, from the DPP, the charges are withdrawn and the accused person is accordingly discharged"
Ever since Obua was charged in March, 2005 no single witness was produced in court to testify against him.
Prosecution dragged Obua to court on allegation that, while he was the FUFA boss between 1999 and 2001, he misappropriated the money for his own use. Odiit also tendered in court a withdrawal letter signed by Richard Buteera, the Director of Public Prosecution stating that Obua won't be prosecuted anymore.
